When around 1000 BC the Etruscans landed on the Tyrrhenian coasts of Italy, their choice of this territory for settlement was not random.
The sandy coastline with typical Mediterranean vegetation, the plains of the Tuscan-Lazian Maremma, the mountains dense with oaks and chestnuts, the formidable beech forest of the Cimini Mountains as an impassable stronghold against Roman conquerors, the volcanic lakes, the river gorges, and the tuffaceous spurs provide the perfect setting for a history spanning nine hundred years.
